But he found bottom club United's over-worked defence much more to his liking as he grabbed his first Arsenal hat-trick. Nketiah later dedicated his hat-trick to his aunt who recently died. Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was full of praise for the way Nketiah responded to his return to the starting line-up. He's started nine out of our 10 Premier League games.

Oct 25 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta heaped praise on Gabriel Jesus after the forward led the north London side to a 2-1 Champions League victory over Sevilla on Tuesday. The 26-year-old Brazil international scored a goal and provided an assist to compatriot Gabriel Martinelli, taking Arsenal to the top of Group B at the midway point of the pool stage. Jesus, who has now netted 23 times in 41 appearances in Europe's elite club competition, joined Arsenal after five seasons at fellow Premier League side Manchester City in July last year. He's brought so much belief and energy to the team, and he needs to step into those moments. "That's when a player becomes accountable to the team, and the team relies on those players to win games.

CNN —A late deflected goal from Gabriel Martinelli gave Arsenal a potentially huge victory in the Premier League title race, beating Manchester City 1-0 on Sunday. Man City huffed and puffed, and struggled to break down a resolute Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium as it records its second defeat in a row. We know how tough it is to play against them,” Martinelli told the Premier League afterwards. And his deflected goal was the crowning moment of a complete performance for Arsenal, one which reemphasizes the team’s title aspirations and hands Man City successive league defeats. We started really well with chances, two or three,” Guardiola told the Premier League afterwards.

LONDON, Oct 8 (Reuters) - Arsenal moved level on points with neighbours Tottenham Hotspur at the top of the Premier League after beating champions Manchester City on Sunday as Liverpool were held to a 2-2 draw at Brighton & Hove Albion. Mohammed Kudus scored an 89th-minute equaliser to earn West Ham a point against Newcastle United in a 2-2 draw and Aston Villa stayed fifth in the standings after drawing 1-1 at Wolverhampton Wanderers. Arsenal came into the match having not beaten City in the league since 2015, a run of 15 games -- their longest winless streak against a single opponent in league history. Arsenal did not have a single shot on target in the opening period, but upped the tempo after the break. West Ham retained their grip on seventh place while Newcastle are eighth, a point behind.

Gabriel Martinelli's late goal handed Arsenal a 1-0 win over defending champion Manchester City on Sunday, ending a 12-game losing streak in the league against Pep Guardiola's team in the process. City pipped Arsenal to the title by five points last term, in part by beating the Gunners 3-1 away and 4-1 at home. In fact, Arsenal had not taken a point against City in the league since 2017, its longest losing streak against a single opponent in club history. City as a team only had four shots in the game, its lowest total ever under Guardiola in a Premier League game. Arsenal suffer double blow with Saka injured in loss to Lens

Oct 4 (Reuters) - Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta said he is worried about Bukayo Saka's availability for Sunday's league game against Manchester City after the forward went off injured in the first half of their 2-1 Champions League defeat by RC Lens. The 22-year-old also limped off the pitch in Arsenal's 4-0 league win at Bournemouth - which was his 87th consecutive Premier League appearance. Arteta has been criticised for not resting Saka often enough but the Spanish manager said all the players had been keen to play against Lens. "It was a big Champions League night," he added. But the Champions League is so difficult to win ... and today we take a big lesson as well."

Oct 2 (Reuters) - Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey will be included in the squad to play at Lens in the Champions League on Tuesday after being sidelined for the past six matches, manager Mikel Arteta said. The 30-year-old Ghana international has not played since suffering a groin injury in training in early September. "He’s been progressing really well in the last two weeks, and he managed to train the last two or three days with the team. Arteta emphasised that Arsenal would not underestimate Lens, even though the Ligue 1 runners-up from last season have had a disappointing start, currently sitting in 15th place. MANCHESTER, England, Sept 30 (Reuters) - Champions Manchester City slipped to a shock first Premier League defeat of the season at Wolverhampton Wanderers on Saturday, while Manchester United's campaign of woe continued with a loss to Crystal Palace. United slumped to their fourth loss of the Premier League season as an early Joachim Andersen strike gave Palace a 1-0 win at Old Trafford. With nine points and a minus four goal difference, this is 10th-placed Manchester United's worst-ever start to a Premier League season after seven games. CITY COME UNSTUCKUnited's rivals City had been having no such bad luck this term and made the trip to Wolverhampton having won all six of their opening league games. Chelsea's woes continued as they lost at home to Aston Villa and Sheffield United slumped to the bottom of the table as they suffered a humiliating 8-0 home thrashing by Newcastle United in which eight different Newcastle players scored. The first north London Premier League derby since 2014 not to feature Harry Kane produced an enthralling contest at The Emirates where the two unbeaten sides went toe-to-toe. Arsenal twice led, first through Cristian Romero's 26th-minute own goal, and again thanks to Bukayo Saka's penalty early in the second half. Mitoma then wrapped up the points as Brighton moved above Tottenham and Arsenal with 15 points. Newcastle ran riot at Sheffield United in the weekend's final action as they put eight past the hapless Blades -- their biggest win in the Premier League since they put eight past Sheffield Wednesday in 1999.

Arsenal do not need extra motivation against Spurs, says Arteta

Sept 22 (Reuters) - Arsenal's Champions League group stage win this week was a confidence boost ahead of Sunday's game against rivals Tottenham Hotspur but the team does not need any extra motivation before a north London derby, manager Mikel Arteta said. Spurs are also on 13 points after four successive wins, with new coach Ange Postecoglou leading them to their best start to a top-flight season for 57 years. This game doesn't need any motivation, it's the most special game of the season," Arteta told reporters on Friday. Trossard goal seals Arsenal win at Everton

LIVERPOOL, England, Sept 17 (Reuters) - Arsenal claimed their first Premier League win at Everton for six years as Leandro Trossard's second-half strike proved enough to secure the points at Goodison Park on Sunday. Everton, still without a win this season, had managed to frustrate the visitors who had a Gabriel Martinelli goal ruled out for offside via VAR in the first period. Unbeaten Arsenal joined Tottenham Hotspur and Liverpool on 13 points from five games, two points behind leaders Manchester City who have a 100% record. Arsenal's last league win at Everton in 2017 ended the reign of Ronald Koeman and while Sean Dyche is unlikely to suffer a similar fate, he has a huge task on his hands. But Arsenal eventually unpicked their defence with a short-corner eventually being fed in to Martin Odegaard who released Bukayo Saka on the right side of the penalty area.

Sept 1 (Reuters) - Arsenal have signed Kai Havertz, Jurrien Timber and Declan Rice in the transfer window, and with three players having left the club this week, manager Mikel Arteta doesn't expect any new arrivals. Folarin Balogun, Kieran Tierney and Nuno Tavares have all moved on from Arsenal in recent days, and even with Timber out injured, their incoming business would appear to be done. "I don't expect anybody to come in," Arteta told reporters on Friday. "We've done quite a lot and we had a lot of uncertainty with a lot of players so we have to be very cautious. But anticipation is building for the visit of West Ham, who will become the first top-flight team to play a league match at Kenilworth Road since Aston Villa 31 years ago. The volume created by the Hatters fans crammed in on Friday will shake the 118-year-old stadium to its foundations. Forward Cauley Woodrow, who scored in the League Cup win at Kenilworth Road against Gillingham this week, said Luton needed to turn their home into an intimidating 'fortress'. Arsenal's priority will be avoiding any repeat of the early goals they have conceded on a regular basis at home of late. Arsenal held to 2-2 draw by 10-man Fulham

LONDON, Aug 26 (Reuters) - Arsenal were held to a 2-2 home draw by 10-man Fulham in the Premier League on Saturday, denying Mikel Arteta's side provisional top spot in the table. But Arsenal won a penalty for a foul on Fabio Vieira after the hour-mark and Saka redeemed himself with a confident spot kick in the pouring rain. Arsenal made it 2-1 two minutes later when Vieira whipped in a cross for Eddie Nketiah to score. Fulham were reduced to 10 men when Calvin Bassey received a second booking for a cynical foul on Nketiah to prevent a counter-attack, but they equalised in the 87th minute when Joao Palhinha swept home from a corner to rescue a point. LONDON, Aug 17 (Reuters) - Newcastle United face the first big test of their Premier League title aspirations on Saturday but the trip to champions Manchester City could be coming at the right time for the table-topping Magpies. "Thank you so much to the Premier League for letting us play on Saturday, and not on Sunday and Monday," Guardiola said sarcastically of the 72-hour turnaround from Wednesday's game. Newcastle have yet to win a Premier League match at The Etihad but the arrival of Italy's Sandro Tonali has boosted an already strong midfield featuring Brazil internationals Bruno Guimaraes and Joelinton. Guimaraes explained on a Brazilian podcast last month how much he has hated playing City in the past, so good were their players. Aug 15 (Reuters) - Arsenal have signed Spanish goalkeeper David Raya from fellow Premier League club Brentford on a season-long loan with an option to make the transfer permanent, both clubs said on Tuesday. According to British media reports, Arsenal paid Brentford a loan fee worth three million pounds ($3.82 million) for Raya and will have the option to sign the goalkeeper on a permanent basis for 27 million pounds. "David is a top-quality goalkeeper, who has consistently performed to a high level with Brentford in the Premier League," Arsenal sporting director Edu said. Brentford added that Raya had signed a two-year contract extension before moving to Arsenal. Those three signings were all completed early in the close4 season meaning Arsenal should be ready to hit the ground running when they kick off at home to Nottingham Forest next Saturday. While Rice's price tag appears over-inflated, he looks capable of giving Arsenal the drive their midfield began to lack in the closing months of the campaign. Timber offers the sort of defensive depth Arsenal sadly lacked after France's William Saliba was injured in March.
